Owns Horse(s)? Yes. I grew up in the hunter/equitation ring, however my recent passion has been to learn Dressage.
What does being a Kerrits Ambassador mean to you? Story has it that when I was about 3 years old, my mother took my older sister for a horseback riding lesson. I was so infuriated that I was not allowed to get on, because the trainer said I was too young to take a lesson, that I decided to throw a small fit. I refused to get out of my mom's car and watch my sister, yet instead I locked all the doors to my mom's car, closed all the windows, and got out of the car, leaving the keys inside. Devious little one, hmm? Well that got the point across to everyone that all I wanted was to ride horses! I dreamed of owning my own farm someday and about 5 years ago, that day came. My father unfortunately passed away at an early age from lung cancer and with my inheritance, my mom and I invested in property. I own a 10 acre farm where I board, ride and train horses and pride myself in giving them the best care possible. When I think about what brand I wear the most and am most comfortable in, Kerrits always wins. Kerrits has given me the ability to be comfortable while still looking professional. Additionally, Kerrits is a brand I can afford to buy with great quality and a business model which is admirable, and I am happy to support. Kerrits commitment to the environment is one of the main reasons I enjoy spending my money on their products. The company's values and ethics are ones I wish more of the equestrian world would start to embody. I feel that by being an ambassador, it would give me the opportunity to spread the world about how it is possible to still be a successful business, while keeping the environment in mind. Heck, if we don't take care of the land where we live and that surrounds us, what will our horses eat?!
What are your passions as a rider and ambassador? "In riding a horse, we borrow freedom" -Helen Thomson. I have been riding horses for over 20 years and not a day goes by that I don't thank my lucky stars for these amazing animals. As a farm owner taking care of 8 horses and 2 mini donkeys, the greatest joy I get, is seeing them happy and healthy. I believe in treating animals in a respectful way and through this, I earn their trust and their partnership. My passion for horses started at a young age and continues to grow. I love learning new ways to take even better care of them. That feeling when you are riding and all of a sudden something clicks between you and your horse and you just know you are in sync-those are moments I live for. At the farm I have a few students and watching them get those moments is even better!
Being an ambassador for Kerrits, representing a company created by women, run by women, supportive of the environment and making products in the USA, would be an honor.
What is your connection to Kerrits? I will never forget the first time my mom brought home my first Kerrits shirt! I was so excited about the carrot seeds! I love to spoil my horses and I thought it was the coolest thing that a company gave away carrot seeds with their products. To this day, I save the seeds and plant them when the season is right. We have two pots outside the barn that we plant them in and pull fresh carrots for our horses.
