Owns Horse(s)? Yes. I'm a coach of riders who have many different degrees of ambition - My passion is eventing, but we also drive, trail ride, and dabble in western disciplines. We specialize in haflingers, with a young breeding program in place, and love to show off the breed's versatility.
What does being a Kerrits Ambassador mean to you? I love to share my love for Kerrits with my students, so I feel like I am already a secret Kerrits Ambassador. I find Kerrits products to be flattering to most body types, which really does help the confidence of my adult riders, particularly the ones starting out riding and who feel self conscious in the snug fitting apparel that doesn't often leave much to the imagination. I love being able to recommend a product that makes them feel good while they are indulging their passion in the saddle. Being a Kerrits Ambassador doesn't much change the way I already operate, but I think it would be fun to be "officially" part of the team in promoting a great product that works for so many different types of riders.
What are your passions as a rider and ambassador? My passion is connecting riders and horses. I love eventing as a sport, and I compete regularly, but my favourite part of horses is being able to facilitate the passion in others. I have students who are mature adults, who look forward to their weekly lessons with enthusiasm that parallels the children who are a fraction of their age. When we go to shows or fun days, I admire the way everyone works as a team, regardless of age or circumstance, to make sure the horses look their best and are cared for to the highest possible standard. We are big on promoting teamwork and building a support for each other in an otherwise pretty individual based sport. Many of my students continue to ride through the winter, when we do a lot of hacking out in the snow, since we have no indoor. Its fun to be able to share the pleasure of casual trails with the die-hard students who aren't afraid of the cold! I do have dreams of competing at Rolex someday, like most eventers... but my calling is in the grassroots levels. I think as an ambassador, I'm a good reference for people who like to work hard and play hard. I like to see my money work hard too, and when I buy Kerrits I know I'm buying a product that will be with me for the long haul. I'm in my Kerrits when I'm schooling, when I'm showing, and often when I'm running around town - I wear Kerrits everywhere.
What is your connection to Kerrits? I was working for Nickers Saddlery, and the owner was an avid endurance rider. I began training for an endurance ride, eager to try a new equestrian sport, and Dana suggested I try out some riding tights, which were a new concept to me. I fell in love with the comfort and movement the tights allowed, and proceeded to stock my closet with all my favourite Kerrits products.
My coach's coat was the first item I packed when I left for a riding vacation in New Zealand... it rained EVERY time we rode, and I was SO glad to have the lightweight protection for my body and my saddle. I took the same coat with me when I did my working student position in PA, and wore it there constantly with the heavy wet weather in the winter. I live in that coat and get compliments on it constantly. It comes with me to every event I travel to.
Also... every year our garden is populated with Kerrits Carrots!
